[Opera-CONNIE] vacuum pump status

Hi all,
I just talked to a mechanical engineer here at CBPF - Alexandre Mello.
Actually, he has the same vacuum pump here in his lab, and it is also
broken!
If the problem is really the BACKING PUMP, he proposed that we use a
mechanical pump available here to replace the one broken. It is not the
same pump, but it would do the job.
The replacement is not plug-and-play because of adaptors needed between the
pumps. We would need first to buy a longer pipe (that is easy) and also the
adapters for both ends.
There is also a restriction concerning the operation of this new pump,
since it could send oil back to the system! What would be a disaster of
course. There must be a automatic valve between the pumps that would
prevent it to happen.
Let's discuss that in more detail next week in a meeting.
