Overview

Would you like to advance our understanding and contribute to the development of quantum computing? Our view is that the future success of quantum computing critically depends on advances at the most fundamental level, and that large-scale investments in quantum implementations will only pay off if they can draw on additional foundational insights and ideas. While several powerful quantum algorithms are known, the basic techniques they employ are few and far between. Largely, it still remains to be discovered how to systematically harness the quantum for computation.



We are seeking two qualified Postdoctoral Researchers in the fields of quantum computation theory and/or quantum foundations to work within the scope of the European–Canadian project FoQaCiA – Foundations of Quantum Computational Advantage.



The researchers will work on the foundations of quantum computational advantage, in particular investigating the role of contextuality and other markers of nonclassicality, taking into account the causal structure implicit in computational processes.



The research fellows will join the Quantum and Linear-Optical Computation research group at INL in Braga, Portugal. They will work under the scientific guidance of Rui Soares Barbosa and Ernesto F. Galvão.



Additionally, they will benefit from integration into FoQaCiA’s highly interdisciplinary and international team, including scientists at 7 European and 4 Canadian nodes: INL (Galvão, Barbosa), U. College London (S Abramsky), Stockholm U. (I Bengtsson), U. Granada (Bermejo-Vega), U. Sevilla (Cabello), Bilkent U. (Okay), U. Gdańsk (Sainz); U. British Columbia (Raussendorf), U. Ottawa (Broadbent), Simon Fraser U. (de Silva), U. Waterloo (Yard).
