Electronic Topology
Driven by Strong Correlations
Tuning the correlation strength of electronic materials has led to the
identification and classification of novel quantum phases, thereby
elucidating the underlying physics. To explore how this landscape
transforms in the presence of nontrivial electronic topology represents a
new frontier. After a general discussion of this background, I will present
our recent results on a Weyl semimetal driven by strong correlations,
highlighting in particular the extreme topological response observed in
both thermodynamic and transport properties.
Silke Bühler-Paschen is an experimental condensed matter physicist with a
focus on strongly correlated electron systems. After her graduation from
Graz University of Technology, PhD work at the EPFL in Lausanne, and
research stays at ETH Zurich, the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics
of Solids in Dresden, and Nagoya University, she was appointed Full
Professor of Physics at the Vienna University of Technology. Her research
activities span from materials synthesis to advanced physical property
measurements under multiple extreme conditions. Topics of current interest
include quantum criticality, correlation-driven topological phases, heavy
fermion metals and Kondo insulators, and correlation effects in
thermoelectrics.
